How to Cut Consultation No-Shows for Your PMU Studio
To cut no-shows for PMU consultations, confirm each consult in writing when she books, then send a reminder before it with your address and parking that asks her to reply to confirm. Make it easy to reschedule so she moves her consult instead of skipping it, offer some times in the next few days, not only weeks out, and take a deposit if it fits your studio.

Why consultations get missed
A consult is easy to miss. It's often free, she may have booked it on her phone days or weeks ago, and nothing reminds her it's coming unless you do.
A no-show isn't always a no. She may have forgotten, her plans changed, she got nervous about the price or the procedure, or she didn't want an awkward conversation about moving it.
So what helps is simple: make the consult easy to remember, easy to find and easy to move. You won't stop every no-show, but you can make coming in the easy choice.
Confirm it in writing when she books
Right after she books, send her the details in writing: the day and time, how long the consult takes, your address and what you'll go over together.
If she booked over the phone or in a message, this is the first time she sees it written down, so get it right, and make it easy to add to her calendar.
If you take a deposit or have a policy for missed consults, say so here in a sentence, so it's never a surprise later.
Send a reminder she replies to
Send a reminder before every consult, a day or two ahead and again that morning.
Put everything she needs to get there in it: the time, your address, where to park and how to get in, like which door or which suite. Someone circling the block for parking can turn into a late start or a no-show.
Ask her to reply to confirm, so you know who's coming. Asking for a reply also gives her an easy moment to tell you she can't make it, which beats finding out when she doesn't walk in.
Make rescheduling easy
If moving her consult means calling you during work hours or explaining herself, skipping it can feel easier. Make moving it the easy option instead.
Say in the confirmation and in the reminder that she can move it, and how: reply to the text, or use your booking link to pick a new time. When she asks, keep it quick and friendly, with no guilt.
A moved consult can still happen. A missed one is just an empty hour on your calendar.
Offer some times in the next few days
When she books, offer some consult times in the next few days, not only weeks out.
We've seen that consults booked 5 or more days out were cancelled or moved more often than ones booked sooner, 61% against 46% (1,867 consults across 32 studios, appointments Jun 1 to Oct 13, 2026). That counts cancellations and moves, not no-shows, and it's a pattern, not proof that booking sooner helps, so keep an eye on your own calendar too.
Take a deposit if it fits
A deposit asks her to commit before you hold the time, and if she doesn't come, it covers some of what you lost.
For a consult, it's a tradeoff. Asking for money before she's met you can stop some people from booking at all.
So try the steps above first. If no-shows still eat your consult days, a small deposit credited toward her procedure is the next thing to try. Our guide to PMU deposit and cancellation policies, linked below, covers what to charge and how to be fair about it.
When she doesn't come
Check in kindly, say you missed her and offer her a new time. Skip the lecture. A missed consult isn't always a lost client.
If you have a policy for missed consults, follow it the same way for everyone.
Keep a note of who missed. One miss can be life getting in the way. A second is a fair reason to ask for a deposit before she books again.
Count your own no-shows
Each month, count the consults that were booked, the ones that showed up, the ones that moved and the ones that didn't come. Then when you change something, like your reminders or the times you offer, you'll have your own before and after to compare.
Count them by how far ahead each consult was booked, too. Your own calendar will tell you more than anyone's average.
Where Permanent Profits fits
You can do everything on this page yourself. The hard part is doing it for every consult, every week, while you're with clients all day.
If you'd rather hand it off, that's part of what we do. We run your Facebook and Instagram ads for brows (microblading, powder and combo brows) or lip blush, and our AI texting assistant texts your new leads as your studio, day or night. It answers her questions, books consultations onto your own calendar, confirms them, sends reminders and helps her reschedule, and it follows up when she goes quiet. You can read every conversation and step in any time.
It's $0 to start. For your first 45 days of ads, our only fee is $50 per consultation that shows up, and no-shows and cancellations aren't charged. Your ad spend goes straight to Meta on your own card, with a $500 minimum across the 45 days, and we suggest about $30 a day. Texts and calls pass through at carrier cost. At day 45, you decide. If you keep going, there's a one-time activation fee based on your results, then a small monthly amount plus a small fee for each consult that shows.
Questions artists ask
How do I stop no-shows for PMU consultations?
You can't stop every one, but you can make coming in the easy choice. Confirm each consult in writing when she books, send a reminder that asks her to reply to confirm, put your address and parking in it, make rescheduling easy and offer some times in the next few days. If no-shows still eat your consult days, add a deposit.
What should I say when a client no-shows?
Keep it short and kind: check in, say you missed her and offer a new time, with no guilt. If you have a policy for missed consults, mention it plainly, once.
What do I do with a client who no-shows twice?
Ask for a deposit before she books again, credited toward her procedure, and tell her plainly it's because of the two missed appointments. If she simply forgot, ask her the best way to remind her.
Should I have a no-show policy for consultations?
Yes, even a simple one: what counts as a no-show, how late is too late to start and what happens after a miss. A fee or deposit for consults is a tradeoff, since it can stop some people from booking, so check your state's rules and put any fee in writing before she books.
What is a good cancellation policy for clients?
One she hears before she books, in a few plain sentences: how much notice she needs to give to move or cancel, what happens if she gives less or doesn't come, and what you do in a real emergency. Our deposit and cancellation guide goes through each part.
