Day 6 · Flaking and itching · Days 4 to 10
For you, not her
- Day 6 is "Flaking and itching" (days 4 to 10): Flaking, light scabbing and itching. Brows can look patchy as the flakes come off.
- Read it over and change anything that doesn't match how you work before you send it.
How brows heal, day by day
| When | What she sees, and why |
|---|---|
| Days 0 to 3: Bold and dark | Darker, sharper and thicker than they'll heal, with some redness or light swelling. Fresh pigment sits close to the surface, so brows always look strongest at the start. They heal noticeably softer. |
| Days 4 to 10: Flaking and itching | Flaking, light scabbing and itching. Brows can look patchy as the flakes come off. The skin is renewing over the pigment. Flakes lift on their own and take some surface color with them. |
| Days 11 to 21: Ghosting | Brows look faded, grey or cloudy, and in places almost gone. A new layer of skin sits over the pigment and hasn't turned clear yet. The color usually comes back over the next couple of weeks. |
| Days 22 to 41: Settling | The color comes back and settles toward its healed shade. Some strokes or spots can look lighter than others. A first session often heals a little uneven in places. That's what the touch-up is for. |
| Day 42 on: Healed | Healed. This is the shade and shape the touch-up builds on. Most of the change is done by about six weeks, which is why touch-ups are booked around then. |
How lip blush heals, day by day
| When | What she sees, and why |
|---|---|
| Days 0 to 2: Swollen and bright | Swollen, tender, and much brighter or darker than they'll heal. Swelling and strong color are normal for the first day or two. Healed color is much softer. |
| Days 3 to 7: Dry and peeling | Dry, tight and peeling. The color can look patchy as the skin comes off. Lips peel sooner than brows, and the flakes take some surface color with them. |
| Days 8 to 14: Faded | The color looks faded, chalky or milky, sometimes almost like it's gone. New skin over the color makes it look cloudy for a while. It usually comes back over the next few weeks. |
| Days 15 to 41: Color coming back | The color slowly comes back and evens out. Lip color often keeps developing for about a month. Light spots after a first session are common, and the touch-up fills them. |
| Day 42 on: Healed | Healed. This is the color the touch-up builds on. Lips can take up to about six weeks to settle, which is why touch-ups are booked around then. |

When to send her to a doctor
Any of these can be a sign of infection or an allergic reaction, and they need a doctor, not a reply:
- Redness that spreads or gets worse after the third day
- Red streaks, or pain that gets worse instead of better
- Heat, pus, a bad smell, or swelling that keeps growing
- Fever or chills
- Hives, or a rash or itching that spreads past the brows
- Swelling of the face or eyes, or trouble breathing: call 911
- Blisters or a cold sore
- Hives, or a rash or itching that spreads past the lips
- Swelling of the tongue or throat, or trouble breathing: call 911
Every reply about redness or swelling says so. Don't try to judge an infection from a photo.
Replying when she's unhappy
Most worries in the first few weeks are healing, not the result: brows look too dark at first, then patchy, then almost gone. A calm reply that tells her where she is, and when to judge, settles most of them.
Once she's healed and still unhappy, ask for a daylight photo and a time to see her in person. Plan any fix together at the touch-up, and keep money talk to your written policy.
Questions artists ask
Why do brows look grey or faded a week or two after microblading?
That's the ghosting stage. Around days 11 to 21, a new layer of skin sits over the pigment and hasn't turned clear yet, so brows look grey, cloudy or almost gone. The color usually comes back over the next couple of weeks, which is why it's worth waiting until about six weeks to judge the healed result.
Is it normal for lip blush to look faded after a week?
Yes. After the peeling, lips often look chalky, milky or pale for a week or so, because new skin is covering the color. Lip color usually keeps coming back for about a month, and the touch-up fills any light spots.
When should a PMU touch-up be done?
Most artists book the touch-up about 6 to 8 weeks after the first session, once the skin has fully healed and the color has settled. Set your own window based on your training, and put it on your aftercare sheet so she knows when to book.
How do I reply to a client who wants a refund?
Thank her for telling you, explain where she is in healing if it's early, and ask to see her in person before you talk about anything else. Don't argue about the result or promise money back over text. If she asks about money, answer with your policy as your consent form states it, kindly and briefly.
Is it free, and does it keep what I type?
It's free, with no sign-up. The reply is written in your browser, and what you type isn't sent to us. Your studio details are remembered in your browser only, so you don't retype them for every client.
Made by Permanent Profits
We run Facebook and Instagram ads for brow and lip blush artists, and our app texts every new lead within about a minute, day or night, and books the consultation onto your calendar. These tools are free, with no sign-up.
